Cheyenne Mountain High School Student Rotarians Awarded Scholarships
Four Cheyenne Mountain High School Student Rotarians were chosen as finalists vying for the Broadmoor Rotary Club scholarships.  (Left to right:  Dylan Craddock, Alana George, Aiden Connaughton, and Emily Rychener)

The Broadmoor Rotary Club awarded two scholarships to outstanding Cheyenne Mountain High School student Rotarians at the Club’s April 23 luncheon.  This is the 52nd annual awarding of the Broadmoor Rotary Club Scholarship.

The Rotary Club scholarship recipients are determined based upon academics, activities, and leadership.  Sixteen top-notch students applied for the scholarships this year.  Andy McCord, Chairman of the Broadmoor Rotary Scholarship Committee, stated “to choose four finalists amongst the sixteen amazing student applicants is difficult enough, but to then pick the two finalists is absurdly tough.  All are leaders, all are academically powerful, all are committed to their families and communities, and all are talented in many different ways.”

The accomplishments of the four finalists are simply too numerous to list, but a short summary for each of the four finalists is:

Aiden Connaughton – Student Body President, captain of the tennis team, Colorado Springs Youth Symphony member, National Merit Finalist, and US President Scholar candidate.

Dylan Craddock – Member of  student government for all four years at CMHS, Co-Captain of Women’s Lacrosse Team (and Academic All-American for Lacrosse), National Honor Society, Founding member of the Dead Poets Society, and Secretary of the National Charity League.

Alana George – Co-Captain of Women’s Lacrosse Team (and Academic All-American in, As well as All-State for, Lacrosse), Officer of the National Honor Society, Vice-President of the Math Club, and AP Scholar with Distinction.

Emily Rychener – Group leader of the Cross Country team, varsity track and field, Legacy Youth Group, National AP Scholar with distinction, and National Honor Society.

Of these four incredible students, the Broadmoor Rotary Club congratulates Alana George and Dylan Craddock as the recipients of this year’s scholarships of $1500.  All four, and indeed all sixteen applicants, are to be congratulated for their many achievements and contributions!
